MG or YA?

I have decided to classify my WIP Jace and the Elysian Planes as Middle Grade, and not Young Adult.

For awhile I was trying to ride the fence, calling it a MG/YA novel. But a wise author (unnamed for now) suggested picking one, as it’s quite hard to be both.

So there you have it. I felt being exclusively MG might turn off potential older readers that like YA. But in reality at this stage MG is a fairer representation. The main character Adam is 10 yrs old (in this revision, who knows how it might change later :-D), and despite finding himself in some serious life-or-death situations, he’s not yet dealing with the usual adolescent/teenage issues prevalent in YA stories. Yet.

And we’re up

Finally kicking it off, writer’s block is annoying enough. But dilly-dallying futzing around with themes and colours, without getting anything aesthetically pleasing? That’s madness.

So I’ve decided, a simple boring view with some content is better than a perpetual asymptote towards unattainable beauty.

G’day.
